November 2016 Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the November 19, 2016 Meeting at Original Mel’s Diner in Auburn, CA

President Greg Hill called the meeting to order at 9:05 A.M.

Invocation: There was not any invocation given.

SAR Pledge: The SAR Pledge was led by Dick Fowler.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Gordon Clark.

Introductions of Guests: The guests for the November meeting were Tony Chakurian, Jeannette Clark, Conni Barker, Mike Hurst, Natalie Baxley, Cameron Baxley, Toby Richardson, Tyghe Richardson, Coreena Ross.

Approval of Minutes: Mike Holmes made the motion to approve the minutes as published on the chapter website. Gordon Clark seconded the motion. The motion was approved.

Chapter Reports

President’s Report: President Greg Hill spoke about the Wreaths Across America Program.

1st Vice President’s Report: There was no report given.

2nd Vice President’s Report: There was no report given.

Treasurer’s Report: Dave Gilliard was absent, Greg Hill gave the treasurer’s report.

Secretary’s Report: There was no report given.

Eagle Scout Report: There was no report given.

Poster Judging Contest: Ron Barker and Greg Hill spoke about the poster contest. They said the chapter’s poster winner won at the National Contest and will be displayed at NASSAR for one year.

Valley Forge: There was no report given

J.R.O.T.C. Program: Mike Holmes spoke about the J.R.O.T.C. awards.

Historic Flag Program: Mike Holmes spoke about doing a Historic Flag Program at a nursing home.

Historian/Chaplain Report: There was no report given.

Registrar’s Report: Ron Barker said that Tony Chakurian’s application was approved at national. There are three other applications started.

Colorguard Reports: Dale Ross was not present, Coreena Ross spoke about the Wreaths Across America program that was going to be happening on December 17th, 2016. The program will be held at the New Auburn Cemetery. The program will begin at 9:00 a.m. The chapter members and their spouses are encouraged to wear their Colonial Costumes.

Chaplain’s Report: No report was given.

Newsletter Editor: No report was given.

Old Business

Mike Holmes spoke about the Wreaths Across America Sales. Most of the wreaths have been purchased online. The Wreaths Across America Program will be held on Saturday December 17th, 2016 at the new Auburn Cemetery. The time of the program is 9:00 a.m.

New Business

CASSAR President Ron Barker spoke about the National Poster Contest and the National Brochure Contest. He presented Greg Hill with the SAR Americanism Youth Contests Medal and a Certificate of Appreciation for helping with the CASSAR State Meeting.

Ron Barker also spoke about the Veteran’s Day Parade that was held in Auburn on November 11th, 2016.

Greg Hill inducted Tony Chakurian into the Gold Country SAR as a new member. As his Sponsor, Alan Brooking presented Tony with the lapel pins and certificate. Ron Barker spoke about the meaning of the pins. The entire membership present then welcomed Tony into the Chapter.

Dick Fowler made the motion to accept the slate of officers for the 2017 year. Mike Holmes seconded the motion. Motion carried.

The annual Christmas Party will be held at Mel’s Diner after the Wreaths Across America Program. The members present unanimously agreed that Mel’s was a better option than a pot luck.

Mike Holmes spoke about the Big Day of Giving which occurs in May.

Adjournment

Greg Hill called for the meeting to be adjourned. Gordon Clark seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Benediction: There was not a benediction given at the meeting.

SAR Recessional: The SAR Recessional was led by Mike Holmes.

The meeting adjourned at 10:05 a.m.
