Minutes of the August 15, 2026 Meeting at Mel’s Diner in Auburn, CA
President Dale Ross called the meeting to order.
The meeting started at 8:27 a.m.
The invocation was led by Ron Barker.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Greg Hill.
The SAR Pledge was led by Greg Hill.
Welcoming of Guests: Western Vice President NSSAR and Gold Country member Jay Dickey, Conni Barker, Elise Chakurian, Will Scott, Bert Jones, Don McAllister, Clint Shifflet, Mike Herrick, Richard Clark, Richard Hood, Coreena Ross.
National Society Sons of the American Revolution Vice-President Jay Dickey gave his report.
The National Society Sons of the American Revolution have three goals they would like to complete this year.
1st: The first item will be a signature event on their website.
2nd: The second item on the website is sharing their member’s patriot ancestor.
3rd: The third item is promoting American History, such as the Delaware Regiment Revolutionary War Encampment that is held in Nevada City, CA.
Approval of June 20th, 2026, meeting minutes. Ron Barker made the motion to accept the June 20th, 2026, meeting minutes. Dave Hulbert seconded the motion and the motion carried.
Bronze Colorguard Award: Tony Chakurian was recognized with the Bronze Colorguard medal.
America 250 Medal: Elise Chakurian was recognized with the America 250 Medal.
New Treasurer Position: Ron Barker made the motion to nominate Tony Chakurian for the Treasurer position of the Gold Country Chapter. Dave Hulbert seconded the motion and the motion carried.
Officer and Program Chair Reports
President’s Report: President Dale Ross eulogized the passing of Mike Holmes. He will be greatly missed.
First Vice-President: Greg Hill gave his report.
Second Vice President: No report was given.
Treasurer’s Report: There was no report given.
Secretary Report: Ron Barker said the dues will be mailed out in October.
Registrar Report: Dave Hulbert said there were six applications approved.
Color Guard Report: Dale Ross spoke about the Delaware Regiment Revolutionary War Encampment living history at Pioneer Park, Nevada City, CA.
America 250 Minute: Dave Hulbert spoke about the Battle for Brooklyn.
Old Business: No old business to report.
New Business
Patriot Ancestors: Each of the Gold Country Chapter NSSAR members gave a brief history of their patriot ancestors.
I will need a new recording secretary for the Gold Country Chapter,
I will need an updated Gold Country Chapter Roster and e-mail list. I will be contacting Greg Hill to help with updating the chapter website.
I would like to thank Ron and Conni Barker, Tony and Elise Chakurian, Dave Hulbert, Coreena Ross for helping out at the July 8th, 2026 historic flag program. The Gold Country Chapter presented the program to the Richard Townsend American Legion Post #84. Gold Country Chapter received a certificate of appreciation from the Richard Townsend American Legion Post #84.
I would like to talk about fundraisers for the chapter. Wreaths Across America, etc. for this next year.
Delaware Regiment Revolutionary War Encampment Living History: The Gold Country Chapter has been asked to do a special presentation of having the visitors sign a Declaration of Independence, I will need volunteers to help run the booth. I will also need volunteers to create a sign for the station. The dates of the encampment are September 19th and 20th, 2026. The Delaware Regiment will need help in setting up the camp on Friday, September 18th and helping take down the camp on Sunday, September 20th, after the parade.
The next chapter meeting will be held on October 17th, 2026, at Mel’s Diner in Auburn, CA. The time of the meeting will be 8:30 a.m.
Veteran’s Day Parade: The Gold Country Chapter SAR has been invited to do the Color Guard duties at the Veteran’s Day Parade in Auburn, CA. The date of the parade is November 11th, and the time will be forthcoming. I am also coordinating with Emigrant Trail NSDAR and the Wreaths Across America Float.
Wreaths Across America: The Wreaths Across America date is December 19th, 2026. The details for this program will be forthcoming.
SAR Recessional: Jay Dickey led the SAR Recessional.
