Minutes of the February 21, 2015 Gold Country Chapter SAR Meeting at the Sierra Smokehouse and Grill in Auburn, CA
President Greg Hill called the meeting to order at 9:02 AM. Recording Secretary Dale Ross was taking minutes.
Opening: The Invocation was given by Barry Hopkins. Gordon Clark led the Pledge of Allegiance. Alan Brooking led the SAR Pledge.
Members and Guests: Jeannette Clark and Coreena Ross were recognized as Guests.
Minutes Approval: President Greg Hill asked for a motion approving the January meeting minutes as published in the chapter’s newsletter and on the website. A motion was made by Mike Holmes, seconded by Dave Gilliard and the motion was carried.
Speaker: Dave Gilliard spoke about the chapter poster contest. The topic of the poster contest is Lexington and Concord. Dave also spoke about the school presentations and how he created cards about people who participated in the American Revolution. He has the children read the cards about the people who participated in the American Revolution. At the end of the school presentations Dave Gilliard hands out copies of the Dunlop Broadside Declaration of Independence to all of the students. There are artifacts for the students to look at as well.
Chapter Reports:
President’s Report: President Greg Hill said that Steven Roberts, a past member, is looking to return to the chapter.
J.R.O.T.C.: Michael Holmes said that he and Alan Brooking attended the J.R.O.T.C. Program at Whitney High School on February 7, 2015, where they handed out the chapter J.R.O.T.C. award.
Color Guard: Dale Ross spoke about doing a color guard activity for the Boy Scouts of America Commissioner Conference. The date of the Commissioner’s Conference is March 7th, 2015. The chapter will be doing a flag ceremony at the Commissioner’s Conference.
Old Business:
President Greg Hill said they are trying to establish the chapter meeting place back at Awful Annie’s once the renovation of the restaurant is completed.
President Greg Hill also spoke about establishing a phone tree for the chapter members.
President Greg Hill spoke about the Patriot’s Day Celebration that will be held on April 19th, 2015 in Auburn, CA.
New Business:
President Greg Hill spoke about the chapter participating in the Oration and Essay Contest that is held at the local high schools.
The March Meeting will be held at the Rose Room in the Auburn City Hall. This will be the poster judging contest for the chapter. Please bring refreshments to share at the poster judging contest. The date of the poster judging contest will be March 21st, 2015 and the time will is 9:00 a.m.
Mike Holmes spoke about the May 5th, 2015 Big Day of Giving. The Big day of Giving helps the local non- profit organizations. This year is too late to participate in the Big Day of Giving, but the chapter can apply for next year.
Adjournment: Mike Holmes made the motion for the meeting to be adjourned. Alan Brooking seconded the motion.
Closing: Ernie McPherson led the SAR Pledge. Barry Hopkins gave the benediction.
