Minutes of the May 21, 2016 Meeting at Original Mel’s Diner in Auburn, CA

President Greg Hill called the meeting to order at 9:07 A.M.

SAR Pledge: The SAR Pledge was led by Ron Barker.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Gordon Clark.

Introductions- Guests: The guests for the May meeting were John English from the George Washington Chapter SAR, Donna Arc, Tom Eberlein, Jeannette Clark, Conni Barker, Liz Sublett, and Coreena Ross.

Attendance: 9 Members and 7 Guests.

Approval of Minutes: Ron Barker made the motion to approve the minutes as published on the chapter website. Sam Sublett seconded the motion. The motion was approved.

Programs

The program for the May meeting Donna Arc. Donna’s presentation was about The Forgotten Soldier Project. Donna helped create the Empathetic Touch Program and the program is receiving help from the V.A. at Mather Field. Donna Arc said “They are doing a fund raiser for the garden that is located in Auburn and the fund raiser is selling bricks with the donor’s names on the bricks. They are having a fundraiser on June 23rd, 2016. President Greg Hill presented Donna Arc with a SAR Certificate of Appreciation.

Tom Eberlein spoke about a horse named Sergeant Reckless. The horse carried supplies to the soldiers during the Korean War. The horse was recognized for his service during the war.

First Vice-President Mike Holmes spoke about the garden and the murals that are being readied for the Memorial Garden.

Chapter Reports

President’s Report: President Greg Hill spoke about the California Society Sons of the American Revolution Meeting. The dates of the meeting are April 14th through April 17th, 2016. The state meeting was held at the Sacramento Embassy Suites. There was a special dinner held at the Sutter Club in Sacramento, CA, on Friday evening.

1st Vice President’s Report: Mike Holmes spoke about the Placer County Superintendent of Schools.

2nd Vice President’s Report: There was no report given.

Treasurer’s Report: Greg Hill gave the treasurer’s report.

Secretary’s Report: There was no report given.

Eagle Scout Report: Dale Ross said that he was working on getting the Eagle Scout names from the Golden Empire Council Boy Scouts of America.

Poster Judging Contest: Ron Barker spoke about the poster contest.

Valley Forge: Mike Holmes spoke about the Valley Forge Teacher Program.

J.R.O.T.C. Program: Mike Holmes spoke about the J.R.O.T.C. Chairman.

Wreaths Across America: Mike Holmes spoke about selling the wreaths for the Wreaths Across America.

Colorguard Reports: Dale Ross spoke about upcoming chapter events involving the colorguard. He spoke about the past state meeting, the Revolutionary War Encampment in Nevada City in September and the Constitution Day Parade. The 4th of July Parade, Wreaths Across America, etc.

Chaplain’s Report: President Greg Hill reported that Dave Gilliard was absent to be with his father who just had a medical procedure. He also reported that Mary Dancer sent greetings from her husband Donn, who is moving to continue his recuperation but enjoys hearing from the Chapter and wishes he could be here with us.

Old Business

Ron Barker spoke about the CASSAR State Meeting that was held at the Embassy Suites in Sacramento, CA. The dates of the CASSAR State Meeting were April 14th, 2015 through April 16th, 2015.

Ron Barker is the new California State President. The Gold Country Chapter will be hosting the state meeting. There will be a special dinner on Friday night and the dinner was held at the Sutter’s Club.

New Business

CASSAR President Ron Barker spoke about Sam Sublett assisting and the President General Tom and his lady Mickie Jo Lawrence at the Sacramento Airport. Sam Sublett received the President General’s Aide De Camp Pin for assisting them at the airport.

Dave Gilliard had the meeting at his office on April 9th, 2016 to help set up the registration packets for the California Society Sons of the American Revolution Spring Meeting.

Ron Barker spoke about people volunteering to run the election booth on June 7th, 2016.
CASSAR President Ron Barker spoke about the upcoming B.0.M.M. that will be held on November 4th through the November 6th, 2016. The meeting will be held in Burlingame, CA.

Adjournment

Greg Hill called for the meeting to be adjourned. Gordon seconded the motion. Motion carried.

SAR Recessional: The SAR Recessional was led by Dick Fowler.

The meeting adjourned at 10:33 a.m.
