March 2018 Meeting Minutes

Minutes of the March 17, 2018 Meeting at the Auburn Library in Auburn, CA

President: President Tony Chakurian was absent at this meeting. CASSAR Vice-President North Dave Gilliard filled in for Tony Chakurian at this meeting and he called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m.

Invocation: Compatriot Gordon Clark led the invocation.

SAR Pledge: The SAR Pledge was led by Compatriot Ron Barker.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Compatriot Greg Hill.

Introductions of Guests: The guests for the March meeting were Jeannette Clark, Conni Barker, Coreena Ross. The Emigrant Trail Chapter N.S.D.A.R. guests were Paula Celick, Susan Miller, Kay Carlile, Ashleigh Hoslett, Geri DeHart, Pat Scribner, Jan Powers.

Approval of Minutes: Gordon Clark made the motion to approve the minutes as published on the chapter website. Mike Huurst seconded the motion. The motion was approved.

Program

The program for the March meeting was the poster judging contest. The poster contest theme was The Battle of Saratoga. There were 730 posters that were submitted to the chapter for judging. Poster Contest Chairman Dave Gilliard spoke about the rules that involved the poster contest.

The following poster contest winners for the Gold Country Chapter N.S.S.A.R. were:

2. Meghan Butters: Diamond Creek School
3. May Hinman: John Adams Academy
4. John Benson: John Adams Academy
5. Luca Acosta: Loomis Elementary School

Treasurer’s Report: Dave Gilliard gave his report at the meeting.

Secretary’s Report: There was no report given at the meeting.

Eagle Scout Report: There was no report given at the meeting.

Valley Forge: There was no report given at the meeting.

Membership Report: Ron Barker presented Fred Haggin with his membership papers and the SAR pin. Fred Haggin was welcomed by all members.

J.R.O.T.C. Report: There was no report given.

Colorguard Reports: Dale Ross said the colorguard presented colors at the District II Meeting for the Daughters of the Revolution on January 27th, 2018. The presentation took place at the Ridge Country Club in Auburn, California.

First Vice-President Mike Holmes said there will be an upcoming Colorguard Activity at the New Auburn Cemetery on Memorial Day. The date of the event is Monday, May 28th, 2018. Details of the event will be forthcoming.

There will be additional Colorguard Events coming up in the near future.
May 26th, 2018: The Forgotten Soldier Program in Auburn, California.
May 28th, 2018: Colorguard Activitity at the New Auburn Cemetery in Auburn, California.
June 8th, 2018: The Auburn, California Cruise Night.
July 4th, 2018: The Fourth of July Parade in Nevada City, California.
September 8th and 9th 2018: The Revolutionary War Encampment in Nevada City, California.
September 9th, 2018: The Constitution Day Parade in Nevada, California.
September 29th, 2018: The Auburn Airfest in Auburn, CA.

Chaplain’s Report: No report was given at the meeting.

Newsletter Editor: No report was given at the meeting.

Registrar’s Report: Mike Hurst said they were working on three applications and one supplemental.

Old Business

Colorguard Captain Dale Ross said the colorguard presented colors at the District II Meeting for the Daughters of the Revolution on January 27th, 2018. The presentation took place at the Ridge Country Club in Auburn, California. The colorguard participants were presented Certificates of Appreciation from the Emigrant Trails Chapter NSDAR. Colorguard Captain Dale Ross presented Mike Hurst with an N.S.D.A.R. Certificate of Appreciation from the Emigrant Chapter N.S.D.A.R.

The C.A.S.S.A.R. State meeting will be held on April 19th, through April 21st, 2018 in Concord, California. The meeting is being hosted by the Thomas Jefferson Chapter.

New Business

The Chapter has been invited to do a presentation at the Boy Scouts of America Cub Scout Daycamp on Friday, June 15th, 2018 to do a historic flag presentation at the daycamp. The time of the presentation is still pending.

The Gold Country Chapter N.S.S.A.R. will be hosting the Fall Board of Manager’s Meeting. The dates of the meeting are November 9th, through November 11th, 2018. The location is the Lake Natoma Inn in Folsom, California. Details of the state meeting will be forthcoming.

Vice-President North Dave Gilliard called for the meeting to be adjourned. Mike Holmes made the motion for the meeting to be adjourned. Mike Hurst seconded the motion. Motion carried.

SAR Recessional: The SAR Recessional was led by Compatriot Ron Barker.
