Minutes of the January 16, 2016 Meeting at Original Mel’s Diner in Auburn, CA

President Greg Hill called the meeting to order at 9:03 A.M.

Invocation: The invocation was led by Barry Hopkins.

Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Dale Ross.

SAR Pledge: The SAR Pledge was led by Gordon Clark.

Attendance: There were 9 Members and 5 Guests in attendance.

Introductions- Guests: The guests for the August meeting were Jeannette Clark, Patricia Hopkins, Maryanne Gilliard, Coreena Ross, Larry LaVerne.

Approval of Minutes: Dave Gilliard made the motion to approve the minutes as published on the chapter website. Mike Holmes seconded the motion. The motion was approved.

Guest Speaker: Larry LaVerne spoke about the First Annual Auburn Wreaths Across America Ceremony. The ceremony was held at the New Auburn Cemetery. He said there were 657 wreaths placed on the gravesites at the cemetery. Larry LaVerne also said the chapter’s colorguard made the Wreaths Across America Ceremony special and that was the finishing touch on the ceremony. The colorguard also participated in doing a Wreaths Across America Ceremony at the Old Auburn Ceremony. He also spoke about selling the wreaths as a chapter fundraiser. Dave Gilliard made the motion to participate in selling the wreaths as a chapter fundraiser. Mike Holmes seconded the motion.

Reports

President’s Report: President Greg Hill spoke about the chapter’s new meeting place at Mel’s Diner. He said that Awful Annie’s wasn’t going to work out, so the chapter opted for Mel’s Diner as the permanent chapter meeting place.

Secretary Report: No report was given at this time.

Treasurer’s Report: Dave Gilliard gave the treasurer’s report.

Membership Report: No report was given.

Genealogy/ Registrar Report: No report was given.

J.R.O.T.C. Report: Mike Holmes said there was a J.R.O.T.C. Cadet. He is Cadet Major Jarod Yeh and he will be presented with the Gold Country Chapter’s J.R.O.T.C. award in Rocklin, CA on January 30th, 2016.

Valley Forge Teacher’s Report: Mike Holmes spoke about getting a teacher for the Valley Forge Teacher Program. He is waiting to hear back from the teacher.

Eagle Scout Report: Dale Ross said that he had an Eagle Scout and his name is Parker Nelson. He will be invited to the February chapter meeting to read his essay and receive his award.

Historian/Chaplain Report: No report was given.

Newsletter Editor: No report was given.

Old Business

Dave Gilliard spoke about the CASSAR State Meeting that will be held at the Embassy Suites in Sacramento, CA. The dates of the CASSAR State Meeting will be April 14th, 2015 through April 16th, 2015.
Ron Barker is the new upcoming California State President. The Gold Country Chapter will be hosting the state meeting. There will be a special dinner on Friday night and the dinner will be at the Sutter’s Club.

Greg Hill presented Compatriot’s Alan Brooking and Gordon Clark with the Bronze Roger Sherman Awards.

New Business

Poster Contest: Dave Gilliard spoke about the chapter’s poster contest. The poster contest’s theme is Fort Ticonderoga’s Cannon. There had been poster presentations at Excelsior School, Lincoln Crossing School, and there would be a presentation at St. Rose’s School in Roseville on January 21, 2016. There has been a new school added to the presentation program and the name of the school is Diamond Creek School in Roseville, CA.

Mike Holmes said he is involved with the California State Training for juniors in high school. The program is presented through the American Legion Post #84 of Auburn, CA.

Greg Hill said the chapter report was filed with California State Society Sons of the American Revolution.

Barry Hopkins brought the original chapter charter to the meeting.

After the January 21st, 2016 school presentation Ron Barker will meet with the chapter volunteers to help with the California Society Sons of the American Revolution Meeting State Meeting. The meeting will be held at Dave Gilliard’s office in Roseville, CA.

Adjournment

Greg Hill called for the meeting to be adjourned. Dave Gilliard seconded the motion. Motion carried.
