Minutes of the February 20, 2016 Meeting at Original Mel’s Diner in Auburn, CA
President Greg Hill called the meeting to order at 9:08 A.M.
Invocation: The invocation was led by Barry Hopkins.
SAR Pledge: The SAR Pledge was led by Alan Brookings.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Walt Wilson.
Attendance: There were 9 Members and 4 Guests in attendance.
Introductions- Guests: The guests for the February meeting were Richard Ravalli, Heidi Nelson, Mark Nelson, Eagle Scout Parker Nelson, Walt Wilson, Jeannette Clark and Coreena Ross.
Approval of Minutes: Dave Gilliard made the motion to approve the minutes as published on the chapter website. Alan Brookings seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
Guest Speaker
Guest Speakers: There were two guest speakers for the February Meeting.
Eagle Scout Parker Nelson read his winning Eagle Scout Essay. Parker will receive his award at a later time.
Walt Wilson spoke about the Placer County Historical Society. He spoke about the Nisenan Indians and their lifestyle before the California Gold Rush. He also spoke about the California Gold Rush and how Auburn, CA played a part in the Gold Rush.
Chapter Reports
President’s Report: President Greg Hill spoke about the California Society Sons of the American Revolution Meeting. The dates of the meeting are April 14th through April 17th, 2016. The state meeting will be held at the Sacramento Embassy Suites. There will be a special dinner at the Sutter Club in Sacramento, CA, on Friday evening.
1st Vice President’s Report: There was no report given.
2nd Vice President’s Report: There was no report given.
Treasurer’s Report: Dave Gilliard said there was money in the accounts.
Secretary’s Report: There was no report given.
Eagle Scout Report: Dale Ross said that Eagle Scout Parker Nelson was here at the meeting and he will receive his award at a later time.
Poster Judging Contest: Dave Gilliard spoke about the poster judging contest.
Historian/Chaplain Report: Barry Hopkins spoke about the Chapter Charter. He said that when he dropped the picture frame that was holding the charter the glass broke. When he picked up the charter he realized that there were names on the back of the charter when the chapter was reestablished in 1994.
Colorguard Reports: Dale Ross spoke about upcoming chapter events involving the colorguard. He spoke about the upcoming state meeting, the Revolutionary War Encampment in Nevada City in September and the Constitution Day Parade. The 4th of July Parade, Wreaths Across America, etc.
Newsletter Editor: No report was given.
Old Business
Dave Gilliard spoke about the CASSAR State Meeting that will be held at the Embassy Suites in Sacramento, CA. The dates of the CASSAR State Meeting will be April 14th, 2016 through April 16th, 2016.
Ron Barker is the new upcoming California State President. The Gold Country Chapter will be hosting the state meeting. There will be a special dinner on Friday night and the dinner will be at the Sutter’s Club.
Greg Hill presented Compatriot Ron Barker with the Distinguished Service Medal.
